Paces Creek Principal accepts new position; search for new leader underway
July 15, 2025

With less than a month remaining until school starts, Clay County has lost a principal at one of their largest elementary schools.
James Gray, longtime principal at Paces Creek, announced Monday night he had accepted a position as assistant principal at North Laurel High School.
Clay superintendent William Sexton said Gray was a tremendous loss to the school system and Paces Creek.
“Mr. Gray was a very good principal,” Sexton said. “This came about very quick and he seized an opportunity to further his career by taking a new path. We appreciate Mr. Gray and wish him the best of luck.”
The search for a new principal will begin immediately, Sexton added.
“The job will be opening this week to take applications,” he said.
The superintendent added that parents and students at Paces Creek need not to worry.
“We will find a new leader very soon and make sure we have a smooth transition,” he said. “Everything will be ready to go by the start of school.”
A healthy Clay County requires great community news.
