Roy Baker

Roy Baker, age 92, of Troy, Ohio, passed peacefully Thursday, May 8th at The Landings of Sidney. Roy was born in Oneida, Kentucky on September 19, 1932 to the late Preston Jennings Baker and Ruby Robinson Baker.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Brenda (Baker) Farrell, daughters Lisa R. Spangenberger and Lori A. Fair. Roy is survived by his wife of 47 years Jean C. Baker, daughters, Kathryn S. Yingst (Paul) of Lima, Ohio and Joan E. Green (Brian) of Troy, Ohio. Sons, Fred Fair (Linda) of Vandalia, Ohio, William R. Baker (Cheri) of Punta Gorda, FL and Thomas D. Baker (Kim) of Swanton, Ohio. He has 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
Roy graduated high school from the Oneida Baptist Institute in Oneida, Kentucky. He excelled in basketball and softball. Roy served in the US Army during the Korean War era in Germany at a POW prison. He obtained his Bachelors degree in education at Eastern Kentucky University, and completed his Masters degree at Wright State University. A life long educator, Roy served as teacher, principal, and a school board member of the Tipp City School System. In 1969 Roy started BK-Photo, a successful small business for everything pertaining to photography, art, studio, and framing based in Troy, with stores in Greenville and Sidney, Ohio. Roy was always learning, becoming a licensed pilot, and was instrumental in bringing pickleball to Miami County. He played pickleball until he was 88.
A service will be held at 3 pm on Tuesday, May 13th at the One Hope Church of the Nazarene, 1221 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371, with visitation from 1-3 PM. A graveside service will be held at the Squire Hensley Cemetery in Oneida, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Roy’s honor to please consider Oneida Baptist Institute, P.O. 67 Oneida, KY 40972.
